I’m prepping tomorrow’s sandwich today (and it’s going to be Japanese inspired!) but I stumbled upon a story that I wanted to share with you, dear readers.
I thought this article from Pacific Standard was about the artisanal toast trend. Yes, apparently overpriced, gourmet toast is a thing. A thing people are making money off of. Like, they’re not even bothering to make sandwiches anymore. Just a slice of toast and some butter—for the cost of a loaf of bread. Wow.
I expected to read this story through the hardest side eye I could throw at this ridiculous trend. But once I got into the story, I realized it was a great piece about the woman who kicked off the trend, and her triumph over mental disorder.
This profile reminds me of how 300 Sandwiches is really not about the sandwiches, but about the deeper relationship and life adventures between two people described through sandwiches. I recommend you take ten minutes to read the “A Toast Story” all the way through.
Meanwhile, I’m going to search for a good bread recipe. Anyone with suggestions for an easy homemade bread recipe? E-mail me, or leave a comment below or on our Facebook page.
(Thanks to Regina M. for tipping me off to this story via her Facebook page.)
