July 4 is my birthday. I usually have cake for breakfast on my birthday, as it has been my usual bday treat to myself since I was about 3. But since I wasn’t spending my birthday with my mom, who usually cooks said cake (red white and blue Jello cake with Cool Whip frosting, to be exact), I didn’t have cake in the house. So I made something just as decadent…peanut butter and Nutella on thick, nutty bread.
Nutella doesn’t usually live in my house for the same reason we can’t have cake in the house, even on my birthday–I have no self control. I end up spooning it out of the container repeatedly until it’s gone within a day. But being that it’s a holiday, a national one at that, and I was leaving the house in a house in a few days for a beach weekend, I though it safe enough to purchase.
The Nutella and the bananas were fresh, but bread was about two days old. It was still soft, but I could have toasted it. I debated toasting it. I felt the bread again. It was soft enough. Or was it? I should toast it. No, it’s soft enough. Forget it. I finally slathered on the PB and N.
I cut up a banana to add some vitamins and potassium to the meal. Stacked one slice on top of another. Dunzo!
2 slices of wheat bread
1 generous tablespoon peanut butter
1 generous tablespoon of Nutella (2 if you’re feeling really indulgent)
1 banana, sliced
Spread peanut butter on one side of one slice of bread. Spread Nutella on one side of another slice of bread. Cut up one banana and spread the slices on both sticky sides of the bread. Topple one slice on top of another. Press down, and enjoy.
E walked in just as I was about to take my first bite. I shared half with him, so I wouldn’t feel so gluttonous.
Upon grabbing his half in his hand, he paused. “You didn’t toast the bread?”
Sigh. Happy birthday to me.
