DSC_0307 I made a date to spend Valentine’s Day morning with my darling valentine, E. We sat down to a romantic breakfast before I covered the last day of Fashion Week.

FW’s end couldn’t come soon enough– yesterday I slammed my finger in a car door on my way to a show, and had been icing and popping ibuprofen all day. Cooking was challenging, but I desperately wanted to do something nice for my boyfriend, given I hadn’t seen much of him this week.

My sweetie got me a gift certificate to a spa in the city as my valentine (how sweet!). I can’t say what I got him just yet, but part of his gift is Valentine’s Day crepes. He agreed that a crepe is a sandwich, so I went for the most decadent crepe I could imagine–strawberries, carmelized bananas, Nutella and whipped cream. Cupid couldn’t have delivered anything sweeter.

I hate fashion week. For those that have experienced it before, you already know that there is really nothing at all to like about those two weeks in February and September. Those of you you haven’t done fashion week probably think “wow it all sounds like fun! Parties with glamorous people and fashion shows!” but you’d be right about that only on the most superficial level. What it usually is one dramatic moment after the other, and girls with clipboards everywhere you look.
“VALENTINE’S DAY” STRAWBERRY AND CARAMELIZED BANANA CREPES
1 cup flour
2 eggs
1/4 cup water
1/2 milk
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoon melted butter
pinch of nutmeg
pinch of cinnamon
1/2 cup Nutella
1/2 cup strawberries, sliced
whipped cream
powdered sugar (to sprinkle)

Caramelized bananas:
1 banana
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup water

Mix flour and eggs. Then gradually mix in milk. Next gradually add water. Then add butter. Finally mix in salt, nutmeg and cinnamon. Heat skillet with 1 tbsp butter (or enough to coat bottom of pan) on medium heat. Pour about a 1/4 cup of batter in pan and spread in pan until even. Cook for about 2 minutes, until the bottom is light brown, flipping once. Remove and let cool on a plate.

Spread Nutella on bottom of crepe, then add sliced strawberries and roll into wrap. Drizzle carmelized bananas on top and spread whipped cream on top. If that’s not enough sugar, hit it with a bit of powdered sugar. Serve, with two forks.
