After I came out as the author of 300 Sandwiches in the New York Post last week, it seemed anyone with a computer had an opinion about the site. Who knew sandwiches could kick off an international discourse about gender and love?

The One Thing I Learned
from the reaction to this: is that people are VERY passionate about their sandwiches.
Sandwich #177–“Baked at Halftime” Fried Green Tomato BLT
E and I differ on sports. He’s into hockey and the America’s Cup (nice win, Oracle!). I am a raging Chicago Bears fan.
Sandwich #176–“Third Time’s A Charm” Roasted Chicken, Sweet Potato Mash and Swiss Chard Leftovers ‘Wich
I’ve been trying to make this sandwich for two weeks! Finally, I got my ‘wich together!
Sandwich #175–“Indian Summer” Oven-Baked Fried Green Tomatoes with Feta and Pesto
The weekends are for slowing things down.
Sandwich #174—“Michael White’s Forbidden” Mortadella and Ricotta Cheese on Focaccia
Earlier this week I made a Forbidden Sandwich of zucchini and sliced tomatoes, two vegetables E finds repulsive. I asked E what he would cook for himself when I’m not around.
Sandwich #173–“I Can’t Do it All—And That’s Okay” Shakshuka Open Faced Sandwich
I can’t do it all in the morning. But I try.
Forbidden Sandwich #3–Fried Zucchini and Sliced Tomato on Pretzel Roll
We still had zucchini left over from Marie’s garden. But we did not have much zucchini bread left—we gave most of one loaf to Marie. The other loaf and a half…. I, um…well, I was hungry!
Forbidden Food: Zucchini
From Lincoln Center to the country—after Fashion Week, I took refuge in the Midwest to see my parents, get some rest and get some good home cooking.
Sandwich #172–“Messy House” Ham and Cheese on a Roll
I looked around our house this morning. Clothes were everywhere. Trash hadn’t been taken out. Dirty dishes were piled in the sink. A cluttered house means a cluttered mind, and I had gone totally scatterbrained.
Never Forget
why we love New York.
Sandwich #171–“Fashion Critics” Fried Egg and Pancetta on a Roll
E and I have often criticized each other’s wardrobe with the same sharp tongue as an editor during Fashion Week.
Sandwich #170–“Small and Sweet” Grilled Peach and Cream Cheese
I think I found out how to make peach cobbler in sandwich form.
Sandwich #169–“Pick Pick Pick” Turkey, Fennel and Olive in a Pita
Oh no he didn’t!
Sandwich #168–“Fuel for the Day” Egg and Avocado Toast
Day two of Fashion Week, and I’m already on fumes. So is E.
Sandwich #167–“Together Before the Madness Begins” Steak and Tomato Pita Sandwich
E and I will not see each other for a week. Fashion Week begins today, and I will be out covering shows and parties for work.
Sandwich #166–“Lazy Morning” Banana Bread Sandwich
I will be fasting for the next three days. Between the fried chicken, a few glasses of wine last night and today’s banana bread sandwiches, My thighs are crying. E’s might be, too.
Sandwich #165–“First Time Fryer” Fried Chicken Sandwich with Spicy Slaw
I have never fried chicken before. My mother fried it on occasion, but I can’t remember a time when she made any for Dad and I after 1994, when she was working nights, and I went on this kick where everything I ate was stir fried.
